This month our team have been busy undertaking lots of offshore cleans on vessels.  MPI have set criteria for allowing vessels to enter into New Zealand waters.  Vessels have to meet bio fouling standards and show that they are undertaking measures to ensure their vessels are not bringing any unwanted species into NZ waters to ruin our aquaculture industry or the beautiful beaches around New Zealand.  If vessels do not meet this criteria, then that's when we become involved.  Our dive support vessel takes our team outside of New Zealand Territorial Waters (approximately 3 hours travel by boat) and we start cleaning off the biofouling.  Once the vessel is cleaned we send in photographs to MPI for them to assess the vessel and decide if it can then enter NZ waters.
